On newer mobile devices, there is a setting that randomizes the MAC address of the device before connecting to the network. This feature can cause problems on the campus Wi-Fi, as we register the device’s MAC address so it can connect. This article gives general instructions on how to turn this setting off for an individual network.
Note: Due to multiple versions of available operating systems, these directions may vary for your device.
For iOS devices
- Open the Settings app
- Tap Wi-Fi
- Tap the blue “i” next to the CUNESecure or CUNE network (the one you are connected to)
- Find Private Wi-Fi Address and make sure the toggle is off
- Reconnect to the network if prompted
On Android devices
- Open Settings
- Tap Connections (or Network & internet)
-
Select Wi-Fi (or Internet)
- Tap the gear next to the CUNESecure or CUNE network (the one you are connected to)
- For MAC address type (or Privacy), select Phone MAC (or Use device MAC)
- Reconnect to the network if prompted
Additional Notes
-
If you have registered your device with a randomized MAC address, you will have to re-register it using the phone/device/static MAC address
- [Students only] If you have 8 devices registered already and need one or more devices removed, you can submit a ticket to Helpdesk for assistance
