Registration Error Messages
During registration, you may encounter some error messages. The following are the most common errors and what you must do to resolve them.
PREREQ and TEST SCORE ERROR: Many courses, especially upper-level courses, require you to have taken a lower-level course to prepare you for the content. Our registration software checks to make sure you have completed those prerequisites before being able to register. The prerequisite may be for more than one course and may include a minimum grade requirement. If you are currently enrolled in the prerequisite course, we assume you will meet the requirement before the course's start. If you fail to earn credit in the prerequisite course, we'll contact you to determine the best way to proceed.
It may be possible to have the prerequisite waived. Please email the Registrar's office to start that process.
LINK ERROR: Some courses are "linked" to another course or section. Typically, those are lecture and lab sections in the sciences.
To resolve this error, just register for the linked sections together. In other words, add both CRNs during the same step.
TIME CONFLICT ERROR: This message will appear when you attempt to register for two courses that are scheduled to meet at the same time.
To resolve this error, register for a different section of one of the conflicting courses.
CLOSED SECTION ERROR: If you attempt to register for a course that is already full, you receive this message.
To resolve this error, register for a section that is not full, or a different course.
The following list are restrictions we place on certain sections to make sure only the correct group of students is able to register for that section. In some classes, these restrictions may be waived, you will need to contact the Registrar's office if you would like a waiver:
PROGRAM RESTRICTION: Program restrictions are used to reserve courses for students pursuing a specific educational goal. At Concordia we use this restriction mainly to ensure students registering for upper-level education courses have been officially admitted to the education program.
CLASS RESTRICTION: Some courses require students to have a specific class standing or be at or above a specific class standing (freshman, sophomore, etc.).
Your degree works may list you as a different class standing, but you must look at your completed hours, not your registered hours.
Freshman standing applies to anyone who has not yet earned 28 credit hours.
Sophomore standing means at least 28 hours but less than 58 hours.
Junior standing means at least 58 hours but less than 90 hours.
Senior standing means at least 90 hours.
