How do I set up Windows Hello?
Windows Hello is an authentication technology that allows you to sign in to your Windows device using Facial recognition, Fingerprint, or PIN instead of typing a traditional password.
Note: This does not affect those who have been issued a MacBook. Apple has a similar tool known as Touch ID.
To set up Windows Hello
- Make sure you are connected to the network on campus or connected through our VPN
- Open the Settings app and go to Accounts -> Sign-in Options
- Under Ways to sign in, select one of the three Windows Hello methods
Note: You can add additional sign-in methods at any time in the future.

- Click Set up and follow the instructions to begin the setup process.
- Once the setup process is complete, wait about 30 minutes for Windows Hello to be ready; the following message means Windows Hello is not yet ready to use, please try again later

- To finalize the setup, lock your screen (press Windows key + L) and sign back in using your new Windows Hello method
Choosing an Alternate Method at Sign-in
Once you have set up Windows Hello, Windows will attempt to use one of your Windows Hello sign-in methods on the login screen. If you would like to switch and use your password or another existing Windows Hello method:
- Click Sign-in options and select one of the icons that appear

- Select one of the icons that appear (screenshots below show the password and PIN options)

Alternately, MacBook users can use Touch ID on those CUNE-issued devices.
